Blogspot 6: Culture and Fashion

A certain place or even every country has that special way clothing to represent them and their culture.Like here in Philippines our national costumes is "Barong at Saya" which other nationalities don't care about. Many people believe clothing is not only a necessity; their clothing represents their cultures and beliefs. Many factors affect the clothing worn by different civilizations. Some factors include region, beliefs, climate, and gender. Time also serves as a constant in which the fashion of clothing evolves. As every person belongs to a definite culture and has the right to reveal it, personal identity may sometimes be replaced by cultural identity.

It brings a certain person an highlight because of the difference that he/she have.
Clothing in terms of culture is to reveal either the historical roots of a person or the roots the group he belongs to. The oriental-followers are easily defined from the crowd by the specific collars and style of dressing they hold on to.
It is defined in which particular culture or what historical background  you belong to.
But now a day most of the people dress modernly but still has that touch of something to represent their belief.
Like a particular religion "Muslim"  they have that way of clothing that they need to wear in a everyday basis, but some Musilms that i know have been influenced by the modern way of clothing but some still use that scarf or (whatever you call that) to cover things that should be hidden because of their beliefs ,cultural group and understanding that some people may not understand but if they knew because of that piece of cloth that represent their religion can make the people understand and wont get to the point of judgement.

With those simple things you can distinguish a certain person in the way their dressing.

As Vikas Shah stated  in her article , The role of Fashion in Human Care   "Dress is a basic fact of social life and this, according to anthropologists, is true of all known human cultures: all people ‘dress’ the body in some way, be it through clothing, tattooing, cosmetics or other forms of body painting. To put it another way, no culture leaves the body unadorned but adds to, embellishes, enhances or decorates the body… Dress is the way in which individuals learn to live in their bodies and feel at home in them.

Fashion is not just the clothes in particular it can be a way of styling :accessories ,tattoo ,piercing and etc.
A Particular culture has necessary dress code or way of representing a particular area like tribes they use body paintings or tattoo to identify a certain tribe .

Primitive peoples also used tattoos to create what are called clan markings. These marking came in handy during battle to identify foe from friend. These tattoos also guaranteed that you would be able to greet your friends again in heaven, after you had passed away. But other just want to symbolize their self as a though person and sometimes as a symbol for love for a particular person.

Fashion has taken the big part in the traditional costumes of every culture and sometimes this leads to propagandizing a definite cultural group.

Though fashion changes at a constant speed, some pieces of clothing are more than just warmth and protection—some pieces of clothing remain almost synonymous with the cultures which crafted them.

We should be open-minded with the people around us because we dont know the story of their lives .

“Never look down on anybody unless you're helping them up.”

Blogspot 5 : Symbolism of clothing, Psychologically .

It is no surprise to any of the people who at least know what fashion is that the clothes that people wear are usually very symbolic.

Clothing is an easy and beneficial way to show someone your occupation or your choice of music.

In a research that Professor Karen J Pine made, "The Effect of Appearance on First Impressions" it was revealed that people are greatly judged, as first impressions go, through their overall head-to-toe appearance. That even mirror adjustments such as dress cut ,style and even accessories can affect the whole idea and the person wearing it.

" A person’s way of dress has a considerable effect on his mood as well as behavior."

The symbolism of clothing is another part of delivering the message that a person tries to put into it.

A symbol can be a item a character or belief .It strongly express feeling to a certain point of view but a certain symbol can have a lot of interpretation based on the viewer like a person wearing a certain style or way of clothing it will depend with the person viewing you with how they will react on you.
Example a person in a suit resembles "masculinity" a feeling as though his powerful. Because when I see a person in a suit they represent wealth, power, and confidence.

Most of us have our so called "lucky charm " we sometimes tend to wear a particular clothing that gives a certain meaning or value to us that's tends to make us in a happy mood.

Multiple studies along the years, have in fact shown that one’s clothing may even change self perception, which will in turn influence occupational attributes such as:
- responsibility
- competence
- professionalism
- reliability
- trustworthiness
- willingness and
- efficiency
Psychological effects of wearing a particular type of clothing everyday eventually wear off and stop affecting us?

This blogpost reacts with my past blogpost regarding the ways of people and people particularly .

But we tend to rely with the things that we think gives us luck without having trust with our own self.

As what the quote of Bette David said

“It's better to be hated for who you are, than to be loved for someone you're not. ”

Blogspot 4: Style and Fashion

Style is more than to just clothes and putting some top, jeans and your good to go,It is self-knowledge and self-confidence expressed through what you choose to wear, a life-affirming expression of your character and spirit. It is hard to achieve the style that you imagined to be .Sometimes we think on how clothes affect a person .Sometimes it fits well with a particular person and to you  doesn't .You should know how to define and dress your self with you you really are .
"We live in a culture that constantly bombards us with inducements to buy, to accumulate stuff. But when it comes to clothes, no matter how full our closets are, we can often be heard to wail, `I have nothing to wear.`"
That's because we often confuse fashion with style. "Style is the ability to distinctively sort through the maze of things, make a selection and do so in a way that is in keeping with how we see ourselves. With style, we stamp our personal identity on an arrangement of things. And our closets always seem full of possibilities—it just depends on what aspect of our identity we want to make palpable in clothes that day. "By PT Staff,
There are alot of upcoming trends now aday so everyones closet get changed .Do you even notice when we buy new style clothes were get to unlike our old ones not just because it old because of the new style that the trend offers. But in the country that i live at (Philippines),  we dont have different kind of seasons like others countries have ,we only have summer and rainy days .But we have this hot weather  everyday so we get to wear the same clothes over and over and get to recycle stuff and gets to save money instead of throwing/putting clothes away because of season like other countries do we just add clothes and get to have alot of choices everyday.

FASHION - STYLE
"Fashion stuns. Style delights.
Fashion costs. Style is priceless.
Fashion is mindless. Style is intelligent.
Fashion is fascistic. Style is individualistic.
Fashion changes. Style evolves.
Fashion is matter. Style is spirit.
Fashion comes from outside. Style comes from within.
Fashion is self-conscious. Style is self-assured.
Fashion glares. Style glows.
Fashion is slavery. Style is mastery.
Fashion is literal. Style is original.
Fashion declares. Style insinuates.
Fashion is serious. Style is ironic.
Fashion is reproducible. Style is inimitable.
Fashion is safety. Style is courage.
Fashion is clothes. Style is character.
Fashion is this minute. Style is forever.
Fashion restricts. Style liberates.
Fashion is rigid. Style is spontaneous.
Fashion is surface. Style is substance."

"style is fundamentally democratic. It assumes every person has the potential to create a unique identity and express it through grooming and a few well-chosen clothes. Yet style is also aristocratic. It sets apart those who have it from those whose dress is merely utilitarian. It announces to the world that the wearer has assumed command of herself." The style Impererative Pshycology today
Style is, for starters, one part identity: self-awareness and self-knowledge. You can't have style until you have articulated a self. And style requires security feeling at home in one's body, physically and mentally. Of course, like all knowledge, self-knowledge must be updated as you grow and evolve; style takes ongoing self-assessment.
